English Name: Turmeric.

Drug consists of the dried rhizomes of the plant. It is cultivated in almost all the states of India. The central or primary rhizome ovate, oblong or round or cylindrical, conical and varies from 3-8 cm. in length and 2- 3 cm. in diameter. Leaves very large often in tufts, upto 3m. long. Flowers 10-15 cm. long and yellow in color.

Curcumin (Haldi) is pungent and bitter in taste.
