The revised Biomedical Waste Management and Handling Rules has made it mandatory for hospitals, clinics and other medical institutions, to set up their own Effluent Treatment Plants (ETPs), for treating the waste water that can be reused or drained. Liquid waste has to be treated with chemical disinfectants, neutralize it and then flushed into sewage.
